The Apartment
Just back onto the mainland is Ayamonte, the old frontier town, from where there is a ferry over to Vila Real St Antonio on the Portuguese side. The motorway running along the length of the Spanish and Portuguese Atlantic resorts is just the other side of Ayamonte, crossing the river by way of a spectacular suspension bridge.
Golf & leisure facilities Apartment owners and tenants get reduced green fees for the golf course, and there are also discounts for a book of tickets. The course is well kept, fairly new, with some challenging holes. The clubhouse is nice, and serves reasonable food. There are 2 bowling greens adjoining it, and a swimming pool. There is a 4 star hotel close by offering nice bar and restaurant facilities. 2 tennis courts are 200m down the road, and can be booked through the concierge at the entrance. The communal pool is large, and open April to October. There are a number of other good golf courses within 30 minutes; Castro Marim just into Portugal , and Quinta de Cima & Quinta de Rea a bit further. In Spain , Esuri just opened 15 minutes away, Islantilla, and El Rompido a bit further. Around the area The Marina is a pretty spot a few minutes by car. Most of the shops, bars, and restaurants are located here. There are miles of beach and (mainly linked to hotels) beach loungers and bars. Punta Morel is a small fishing village near the Marina, with a number of good restaurants. The motorway running along the length of the Spanish and Portuguese Atlantic resorts is just the other side of Ayamonte, crossing the river by way of a spectacular suspension bridge. The old frontier towns of Ayamonte and Vila Real are well worth a visit, good waterfront areas. Portugal is very accessible along the Algarve. Seville a good day out, and several nature reserves in Andulucia. There is a nature reserve on Canela and several along this coastal area, both sides of the border. The coastal towns and villages all along the Spanish and Portuguese Algarve offer a great variety of interest whether shopping, “touristing”, eating, or just looking.
